Add photos to a recipe
Every recipe can hold as many photos as you like: the finished dish, a step that went well, a page from the book. One of them is the cover, the picture you see on the Recipes page.
Add photos#
- 1
Open the recipe and press the pencil, Edit recipe
A recipe with no picture shows a plain box labelled Add Photos instead. You'll see: The EDITING bar appears and a white Add Photos button shows on the bottom right of the picture.
- 2
Press Add Photos and choose one or more pictures
On a phone you can take a new photo or pick from your library. On a computer you pick files. You can choose several at a time. You'll see: The photos upload at once and the thumbnails row grows.
Photos save the moment they upload
You do not need to press Save for photos, and they stay even if you press Cancel. Only text changes wait for Save.Choose the cover, reorder, delete#
The first photo on a recipe becomes the Cover, marked with a small star label on the top right of the picture. With two or more photos, edit mode shows a row of tools under the thumbnails.
- 1
Tap a thumbnail to select that photo
You'll see: The big picture changes to it, and a counter such as 2 / 2 shows its place.
- 2
Press Set as Cover to make it the cover
The button only appears on photos that are not the cover already. You'll see: The Cover label moves to that photo, and the Recipes page now shows it.
- 3
Press Move Left or Move Right to change the order
You'll see: The thumbnail swaps places with its neighbour.
- 4
Press Delete to remove a photo
There is no Are you sure? box for photos, so check which one is showing before you press it.You'll see: The photo disappears and a message says Photo deleted.
Write a caption#
A caption is a line under a photo, such as Fresh basil on top. It also shows when you view the photo full screen.
- 1
In edit mode, select the photo, then press the pencil beside No caption
You'll see: A box appears with the grey words Add a caption..., a tick and a cross.
- 2
Type the caption and press the tick (Save caption)
Captions save on their own, like photos. You'll see: The caption shows under the photo. The cross, Cancel caption edit, closes the box without saving.
Tip
If the pencil is hard to reach on a computer, add the caption on your phone. Captions show on every device.View a photo full screen#
- 1
Press View fullscreen at the top left of the picture
On a computer the round button appears when you point at the picture. On a phone it does not show, but it is there: tap the top left corner of the photo. You'll see: The picture fills the screen on a dark background, with its caption at the bottom.
- 2
Use the arrows or swipe to move between photos, then press Close fullscreen
The arrows are on the left and right edges, and small dots at the bottom show how many photos there are. On a computer the left and right arrow keys move between photos and Esc closes the view. You'll see: You are back on the recipe page.
Generate an AI image Pro#
No photo of the dish? Pro and Family can ask RecipeClip to paint one from the recipe’s title and ingredients. You get 15 a month; the line beside the button says how many are left, for example 14 of 15 left this month.
- 1
Press Generate AI image under the picture
It takes a little while. You can stay on the page. Press Regenerate AI image for another try; each try counts toward your 15.You'll see: The button changes to Generating… with a spinner. When it is done a message says AI image generated, the new picture becomes the cover, and the button now reads Regenerate AI image.
A picture that came from the website is replaced, not kept
When a recipe’s picture was imported from a web page, the new AI image takes its place as the cover and the original is not kept. If you want to hold on to a picture, add it as your own photo first (see above). On the Free plan the button shows a lock. Pressing it shows a message that AI recipe images are part of Pro.
When the cover is your own photo#
If the cover is a photo you added, RecipeClip asks before it changes anything.
- 1
Press Generate AI image
You'll see: A box asks Replace your cover photo? and explains that your photo stays saved on the recipe, just no longer the cover.
- 2
Press Generate AI image in the box to go ahead, or Cancel
Your own photo is never deleted by this. Use Set as Cover in edit mode to put it back on top. You'll see: Cancel closes the box and nothing changes. Going ahead makes the AI image the cover.
The Generated with AI mark#
An AI picture always carries a small sparkle in its bottom left corner. Hover over it, or use a screen reader, and it says Generated with AI. It stays on the picture so nobody mistakes it for a real photo of your cooking.
Common questions#
