Your public profile

Your profile is one page that shows your name and every recipe you have made public. Its address is recipeclip.app/u/yourname.

What is on your profile#

  • Your display name and your username, written with an @.
  • Three counts: Recipes (your public ones), Followers and Following.
  • A Follow button for visitors.
  • A Public recipes list. Only recipes you made public appear. Private recipes never do. See Choose who sees a recipe.

With no public recipes, the list says No public recipes yet.

Turn your profile page on#

A new account’s profile page is off. While it is off, the address shows Profile not found to everyone except you. Your public recipes still open at their own links and still appear in Explore.

  1. 1

Open Settings and turn on Public profile page

It is in the Public profile section of Settings, under Preferences. The switch shows up once you have a username. The line beside it reads Lets anyone visit recipeclip.app/u/yourname and browse your public recipes. Anyone with the link can open it, signed in or not.

You'll see: The switch turns orange and your profile opens at recipeclip.app/u/yourname.

Open and edit your profile#

  1. 1

Go to recipeclip.app/u/ followed by your username

Your username is shown in Settings, in the line Your public profile: recipeclip.app/u/yourname. Send that address to a friend who has a RecipeClip account.

You'll see: Your profile opens, with your public recipes under it.

  2. 2

    Press Edit profile

On your own profile the Follow button is replaced by Edit profile.

You'll see: Settings opens, where you can change your display name and see your username.

Your username#

Your username is the part of every public link that comes after /u/. It uses 3 to 30 letters, numbers, hyphens and underscores, and has to start with a letter or a number.

A username is permanent once it is chosen

A username you choose when you sign up is permanent straight away. If you skipped that step, RecipeClip picks a username for you the first time you make a recipe public, and you can choose your own once in Settings, under Preferences and Public profile. After that the Permanent label appears and it cannot be changed again, because it is part of every recipe link you have shared. Links that used the old name keep working.
  1. 1

Open Settings and find Public profile

Choose Change…, type the new name and confirm in the box that says This is your one username change. Once it is used, the username is shown with Permanent next to it.

You'll see: You see your username in the Public profile section, marked Permanent once it is final. If you still have your one change, an input and a Change… button sit beside it.

Your display name#

The display name is the larger name on your profile, for example Sam Rivera. Unlike your username, you can change it whenever you like. Your household sees it too.

  1. 1

Type a name into Display name and press Save

You'll see: A message says Name updated.

Follow a cook#

Open another cook’s profile and press Follow. The button changes to Following, and their Followers count goes up by one. To undo it, move over Following and press Unfollow. On a phone, tap Following and the same change happens.

Following is a simple count. It does not change what you see in your own library. Find new cooks in Explore other cooks’ recipes.

Common questions#

How do I hide my profile?#

Turn off Public profile page in Settings. The address then shows Profile not found to everyone except you. Your public recipes stay public at their own links and in Explore. To hide a recipe too, make it private. See Choose who sees a recipe.

Can I add a profile photo or a bio?#

You cannot upload a photo or write a bio in the app. If you signed in with Google, your Google photo shows. Otherwise your profile shows the first letter of your name in a circle.
