Convert and scale a recipe
Paste a recipe link or your ingredient list into the free recipe converter, pick how many servings you want, and choose US or metric. Every amount is rewritten for you. You do not need an account.
Convert a recipe#
- 1
Paste a link or your ingredients into Recipe link or ingredient list
Paste one recipe address, or ingredients with one on each line. A link on its own is read from its page, and a link among ingredient lines is just text. Not sure yet? Press Try an example for a pancake recipe. You'll see: The box takes what you paste. For a link, the line under it reads That looks like a link.
- 2
Press Get the recipe for a link, or look at the list for ingredients
A link takes a few seconds to read. A pasted list converts as you type, and on a phone the Convert button jumps you down to it.You'll see: The recipe appears with its title, a From line naming the website, and the ingredients.
- 3
Pick Original, US or Metric
US gives cups, spoons, ounces and °F. Metric gives grams, millilitres and °C. Each ingredient uses its own weight, so a cup of flour comes out near 120 g and a cup of sugar near 200 g. Original keeps every line in the unit it was written in, so 1 1/2 tsp scaled ×2.5 reads3 3/4 tsp
, not a different unit. You'll see: The summary line says
Converted to metric.
and the amounts change to grams and millilitres. - 4
Set Makes and You want
Type how many servings the recipe makes, then how many you want. A link fills Makes when the page says it. To double or halve instead, tap ×½, ×2 or ×3, or type any number in the last box. Back to ×1 appears while the recipe is scaled and puts it back to its original size. You'll see: The summary line shows the multiplier, for example
Scaled ×1.5.
, and every amount changes. - 5
Press Copy the list
The converted ingredients go to your clipboard, one per line. Turn on Show original first if you want a greywas:
line under every amount that changed. You'll see: The button reads
Copied
for two seconds.

Notes under a line#
A short grey note under a line tells you when the tool rounded, or could not do better than a measure.
| Note | What it means |
|---|---|
Whisk an egg and use half of it. | Scaling asked for half an egg. |
No reliable weight for this one, so it stays as a measure. | A cup of shredded cheese depends on how fine the shreds are, so the tool does not make up a number. |
Rounded to a whole number. Rounded to the nearest half. Rounded to the nearest quarter. | Things you count go to a size you can crack or cut. 1 egg at ×1.3 shows 1 egg, and 2 onions at ×1.15 show 2 1/4 onions. |
Count scaled, pack size unchanged. | “2 cans (14 oz)” gets more cans, but each can stays the shop size. |
A very small amount, so a pinch will do. | Scaling down left almost none of it. |
Cups and spoons are tidied with no note, to a size a measuring set really has, such as 1 cup + 2 tbsp
or 2 2/3 cups
. Amounts stay within about 3 percent of exact. A line the tool cannot read comes back as you typed it, and salt, to taste
never gets an amount.
Oven temperatures and pan sizes#
A recipe from a link, or the example, also shows its steps. So does a pasted full recipe: the method under the ingredients shows as steps. A pasted ingredient list on its own has none. Oven temperatures (°F, °C and gas mark) and pan sizes such as a 9-inch pan follow the unit you picked.
Amounts inside the steps are not scaled
“Add 1/4 cup of batter” stays as written when you scale, and cooking times do not change. A doubled cake needs a bigger pan and a longer bake, so judge by looking, not by the clock.Save a recipe to your account#
A recipe read from a link, and a pasted list or full recipe, show Save to your recipes — free at the top of the result, above the unit controls, with the line Make a free account and it’s waiting there.
under it. The example does not have it. A pasted list also gets a Recipe name box. It starts with the first line of your text when that looks like a dish name, and an empty box saves as Converted recipe
.

Set the amounts, then press Save to your recipes — free
The recipe is kept the way you see it, scaled and converted. A scaled or converted link recipe is saved as its own recipe, named for what it is, such asSoft Easy Chocolate Chip Cookies (6 servings, metric)
, so it sits beside the original if you have saved that too. It opens in the unit you chose. Already have an account? Switch to logging in on the sign-up page: the recipe comes along. You'll see: The sign-up page opens.

Finish signing up or logging in
The recipe waits in this browser for 24 hours. Finish signing up in the tab where you pressed Save, and Google sign-in comes back to that tab: it saves by itself. If you sign in from another tab of the same browser, a prompt asksSave “Title” from the free tools to this account?
Press Save to keep it, or Not mine — discard to drop it. Another browser or another device does not get it. If you press Back from sign-up, your converted recipe is drawn again with its button. Saving does not use one of your AI imports. A free account keeps up to 50 recipes, see Free, Pro and Family. Find it in your library, and fix anything with Edit a recipe. You'll see: A banner at the top of your library reads
Saved from the free tools:
followed by the recipe’s title. - 3
Already signed in? Press Save to your recipes
Signed in, the same button reads Save to your recipes and saves straight away. You'll see: A message reads
Saved to your recipes: Title
, orSaved as a separate copy: Title
for a scaled or converted version.
Limits and privacy#
What to expect
- Links: links to most recipe sites are read free. A link whose page we have to read with AI uses one of your 8 free AI reads a day from one internet connection, shared with our other free link tools. Text that is not a web address, and YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest links, are turned away first and do not count.
- Pasted lists: no limit. They convert in your browser and are not sent to RecipeClip unless you press Save.
- Videos: not read here. A video link sends you to the tool built for it.
- Nothing is added to an account unless you save it. A link’s result is held in memory for up to 10 minutes so the same link opens fast, and is never written to a database.
If something goes wrong#
We couldn’t read that page#
The message is We couldn’t read that page. It may be blocking automated requests, paywalled, or temporarily down.
Several large recipe sites, Allrecipes among them, do not let other sites read them. A typo in the domain gives the same message, so check the spelling first. Otherwise copy the recipe’s ingredient list, press Paste the ingredient list instead and paste it. For a recipe you can never read from a link, take a photo or screenshot of it.
Other messages#
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
That’s a YouTube link.(or TikTok, Instagram, Facebook) | The converter reads recipe pages, not videos. Press the button in the message, such as Open the YouTube tool, then paste the ingredients back here to scale them. A Pinterest link is only a pointer: paste the address of the page it links to. |
That’s a lot of links for one hour. | You sent many links in one hour. Paste the ingredient list instead, or try again in a few minutes. |
We read the page but couldn’t find a recipe on it.or We found the page but no ingredient list on it. | Try the recipe’s own page, not a list or a search page. It works best on recipe blogs and food sites. |
We couldn’t reach the server. Check your connection and try again. | Your device lost its connection. Pasted lists still convert without one. |
Link reading is busy right now.or The service is busy right now. | Paste the list instead, or try again in a minute. |
Use a number above 0. | The servings or multiplier box holds something other than a positive number. The recipe stays at its original size until you fix it. |
Common questions#
How accurate are cups to grams?#
Each ingredient has its own weight per cup, taken from King Arthur Baking and USDA data, so it is better than one rate for everything. A cup is still a loose measure: flour packed down weighs more. Treat the grams as a good average, and weigh when it matters.
Can I switch units on recipes I have saved?#
Yes. Inside RecipeClip, every recipe has the same switch, see Switch between metric and US units. To change a saved recipe’s servings, use the servings box in the ingredients card, see The recipe page.
Next: make a grocery list from links to shop for what you scaled, or calculate nutrition for a recipe.
