Plan your meals

The Plan page is a calendar for what you will cook. Pick a recipe for a day and a meal, and it sits there until you move it or take it off.

Open your plan#

  1. 1

    Open Plan

On a computer, click Plan in the top bar. On a phone, tap Plan in the bottom bar.

You'll see: The calendar opens on the current week.

You see seven days with a row for each of Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. On a phone you see one meal at a time: switch between Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner at the top and scroll through the days. Tap a planned meal to open its recipe.

Switch between week and month#

  1. 1

    Choose Week or Month

On a computer, use the Week and Month switch in the top right. On a phone, tap the grid icon (Month) or the calendar icon (Week) at the top of the Plan page. If you belong to a household and your phone is narrow, only Mine and Family show there. Tap the ⋯ button at the top right of the Plan page (not More in the bottom bar), then Week view or Month view. A month shows each day with its meals.
Phone without a household: the Week and Month icons sit on the top bar, beside the ⋯ button.

You'll see: The calendar redraws as one week or a whole month.

  2. 2

Move to another week or month

Click or tap the right arrow for the next period and the left arrow for the previous one.

You'll see: The dates in the title change and the new period loads.

  3. 3

    Jump back with Today

On a computer, click Today next to the arrows. On a phone, open the ⋯ menu and tap Today.

You'll see: The calendar returns to the current week or month.

Month view.

Add a meal#

  1. 1

Pick the day and the meal

On a computer, click the + in the day and meal row you want, for example Monday dinner. On a phone, choose Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner at the top, then tap Add dinner (or lunch, or breakfast) on the day.

You'll see: The Add to my plan window opens for that day.

  2. 2

    Check the meal

The window opens with the meal you picked already selected. To change it, tap Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner.

You'll see: The chosen meal is highlighted.

  3. 3

    Choose a recipe

Scroll the list or type in Search your recipes…, then tap the recipe.

You'll see: The window closes and the recipe appears in that slot.

A slot that already has a meal

A slot can hold more than one meal. Adding or dropping another one stacks it with the first and never replaces it. In Week view the new meal shows above the one that was already there. On a computer, click an empty part of the slot, or use the + on an empty one. On a phone a filled day has no Add dinner button, so use Month view below, or add from the recipe page.

If the whole week is empty you also see a Plan a meal button. It opens the same window for the first day of the week you are looking at.

Other ways to add a meal#

From Month view. This also works on a day that already has a meal.

  1. 1

Open Month view and tap a day

Switch to Month view as shown above, then tap the day. On a phone, scroll down to see the panel under the calendar.

You'll see: A panel for that day opens below the calendar, with Add a meal at the bottom.

  2. 2

Tap Add a meal, then tap Dinner

First tap Dinner (or Lunch) at the top of the window. Only then choose the recipe.

You'll see: The window opens on Breakfast until you choose another meal.

From a recipe. This adds to your own plan, the one under Mine.

  1. 1

Tap Add to plan on the recipe page

Open the recipe, then click or tap Add to plan.

You'll see: A small panel with Date and Meal opens.

  2. 2

Choose Date and Meal, then tap Add to plan

The second Add to plan button is the one inside the panel.

You'll see: A message says Added to your meal plan.

Move or remove a meal#

  1. 1

Drag the meal to a new slot

On a computer, press on the meal and drag it to another day, or to another meal row in Week view. On a phone, press and hold the meal for about a quarter of a second, then drag it to another day. On a phone a meal stays in the same meal tab.

You'll see: A pale outline shows where it will land. Let go and it moves.

  2. 2

Remove a meal with the cross

On a computer, point at the meal and click the small ×. On a phone, tap the × beside it. Nothing asks you to confirm. On Mine there is no Undo, so add the meal again if you tapped by mistake. On Family, a bar offers Undo for about eight seconds.

You'll see: The meal disappears from the calendar.

Moving a meal has no Undo. Drag it back to put it where it was.

Add one recipe to several days#

  1. 1

    Turn on Select days

On a computer, click the small calendar icon in the top right. On a phone, open the ⋯ menu and tap Select days.

You'll see: The days become tappable.

  2. 2

Tap the days, then Add to plan

Click or tap each day heading you want. Then tap Add to plan in the bar, choose the meal and the recipe. Use Cancel to leave selection mode.

You'll see: A bar shows how many days are selected. Pick a meal and a recipe and it lands on all of them.

The Cooked row#

A grey Cooked row appears under a week when you logged cooking something on one of its days. It is a record of what you made, not something you plan. Log meals from the recipe page; see Log what you cooked.

Keyboard shortcuts#

On a computer, press ? to see the list. T jumps to today, W is week view, M is month view, J or → goes forward and K or ← goes back. They pause while a window or a text box is open.

Mine and Family#

If you belong to a household, a Mine and Family switch sits at the top. Mine is your own plan. Family is the shared one, and it only offers recipes shared with the household. See Share recipes, plans and lists. Household members also see a Vote on next week’s dinners button under the toolbar. See Vote on next week’s dinners.

Common questions#

I can’t find my recipe in the window. In Family only recipes shared with the household appear. Switch to Mine to see all your own recipes. To add one to the Family list, share it with the household first. See Share a recipe with the household.
