Explore other cooks’ recipes

Explore is a page of recipes that other cooks and RecipeClip curators made public. Search it by dish or ingredient, narrow it with filters, and keep a copy of anything you like.

Open Explore#

  1. 1

Click Explore in the top bar, or tap More then Explore

On a computer, Explore is the fifth link, after Collections. On a phone it is the first row of the More sheet, which is the last button in the bottom bar.

You'll see: The page opens with the heading Find something to cook and a count such as 35,339 recipes to cook.

You do not need an account to look. Signed out, there is no Explore link, so go to recipeclip.app/explore.

What Explore shows

Explore searches public recipes from everyone. Your private recipes never appear, and it is not a search of your own library. To search yours, see Find your recipes or Find recipes from what you have. Explore also does not apply your diet profile, and an Explore recipe never shows allergen warnings. To get them, press Fork & Remix to save your own copy. The copy opens on its own page, and that page runs the check. See Set your diet and allergies.

A RecipeClip Curator pill on a card means an editorial collection run by RecipeClip, not an individual cook. Every curated recipe links to its original creator.

  1. 1

Type in Search dishes or ingredients

Try a dish like tikka masala or an ingredient like lentils. Search looks at titles, tags and ingredient names, not at the description. Titles forgive small typos: chiken tikka still finds the chicken tikka recipes. Ingredient names do not, so spell those the usual way. Use the x in the box, or Clear all, to start over.

You'll see: After a short pause the cards change to recipes that match, and the count updates.

  2. 2

Pick Best match, Newest or Trending

While you browse, Newest is picked. When you type a search, Best match is picked for you and puts the closest results first, unless you picked Trending first, which then stays on. Best match only appears while you are searching. Trending puts popular recipes first. The switch is marked 2 in the picture above: beside the search box, or under it on a phone.

    You'll see: The cards reorder.

Scroll down and more cards load by themselves. A star and a number on a card show how many cooks favorited the recipe.

Find vegan, gluten-free and other recipes with filters#

  1. 1

    Find Filters

On a computer the Filters list is down the left side. Cuisine, Meal and Diet start open; click a group name to open or close it, and Show all to see every option. On a phone, tap the Filters button under the search box. It becomes Hide filters, and each group is a row of choices you can swipe sideways. The first picture on this page shows the list on a computer.

You'll see: The six groups are listed: Cuisine, Meal, Diet, Time, Method and Main ingredient.

  2. 2

Pick one choice in a group

Each group takes one choice, so you cannot pick Vegan and Vegetarian together. Choices in different groups combine: Indian and Vegetarian shows only recipes that are both. Tap a chosen option again to clear it. Under Diet, the filter uses the label each recipe came with, such as a source site calling a recipe gluten-free. It is not an allergy check, so read the ingredients, and look for the warning card on your saved copy.

You'll see: The count drops and the cards change. Each choice you made shows a check mark. How many filters are on shows as Clear (2) on a computer, or as the orange badge on the Filters button on a phone.

  3. 3

Remove one filter, or press Clear all

Each choice appears above the cards as a chip. On a phone the chips show after you press Hide filters to close the list. Press a chip to drop just that one. Clear all removes the search and every filter. On a computer, Clear (2) at the top of the list clears the filter choices only and leaves your search.

You'll see: More recipes show again.

The address in your browser keeps your search and filters, so you can copy it to share the same search or come back to it later.

Browse by curator#

The Browse by curator row under the search box only appears when no search or filter is on.

  1. 1

    Tap a curator

Swipe or scroll the row sideways to see more. Each pill shows the curator’s name and recipe count.

You'll see: Only that curator’s recipes show, with a By chip and a View profile link.

To go back, press the chip or Clear all. You can still add a search or filters on top of a curator.

If nothing matches#

You see No recipes match followed by your words, or No recipes match those filters. Try these, in order:

  • Check the spelling, or use a simpler word such as chicken or soup.
  • Remove the last filter you added. The page offers Remove last filter when filters are on.
  • Press Clear all filters and start over.

Open a recipe#

Press a card. Each card shows the photo, title and times; on a computer it also shows by the cook’s name, and on a phone the name is on the recipe page. The page has the ingredients and steps, and you can read it without signing in.

Save your own copy#

  1. 1

Sign in, then press Fork & Remix

The button sits below the steps. Signed out, it reads Sign in to fork & remix. The copy is yours: changing it never changes the original. It counts as one of your recipes, so Free accounts with 50 recipes are asked to upgrade first.

You'll see: A copy opens in your own library, with (remix) added to its title. A large AI Remix card with a Remix this recipe button sits above it. That is a separate AI tool, not part of Fork & Remix. Its goals, such as Gluten-Free or Dairy-Free, rewrite the recipe with AI. For those two goals the result lists any line that still names the allergen, but it reads names only, so read every label.

On a recipe opened from a share link, the same copy button is called Fork and remix, and there is also a Bookmark button. See Share a recipe. After the copy opens, use Edit a recipe to make it your own.

Respect the cook

Fork & Remix makes a private copy for you. If you share the copy, say where the recipe came from.

Follow the cook#

Press the cook’s name at the top of a recipe to open their profile, then press Follow. You need to be signed in, and the cook must have turned their profile page on. If not, you see Profile not found. The profile page is described in Your public profile.

Put your own recipe on Explore#

Every public recipe can show up here, including yours. Open the recipe, choose More options, then Make public. See Choose who sees a recipe. Make it private again and it leaves Explore.

Common questions#

I see “Couldn’t copy this recipe to your library”#

The full message is Couldn’t copy this recipe to your library. Nothing was saved — try again. The copy did not happen, so nothing was added. Press Fork & Remix again. Sometimes the app shows a shorter reason instead:

  • Unauthorized: your sign-in ended. Sign in again, then repeat the step.
  • Recipe not found: the cook deleted the recipe.
  • Cannot fork a private recipe: the cook made it private after you opened it.

Explore says “Couldn’t load recipes”#

Couldn’t load recipes with Check your connection and try again. means the page could not reach RecipeClip. Press Try again.
