Use a recipe page

A recipe page is the one you cook from. Everything is on a single screen: the photo, the ingredients, the steps, your notes, and the buttons that plan it, share it or send it to cook mode.

What is on the page#

Open any recipe from the Recipes page. From top to bottom you will find:

  • The source above the title: FROM LOVEANDLEMONS.COM links back to the original page. A recipe you typed yourself says ADDED BY HAND.
  • Chips for prep, cook and total time, the servings and your tags.
  • The ingredients card and, next to it on a computer or below it on a phone, the numbered method.
  • Notes, a video if the recipe has one, nutrition, your cooking log and comments.

The main buttons#

These sit under the description. A phone shows fewer of them; the rest are inside the three-dot menu. The numbers in the picture match the list.

  1. Start cooking opens cook mode, one step at a time. If you changed the servings on this page, cook mode opens with that number. A recipe with no steps shows This recipe has no method yet instead.
  2. Add to plan picks a day and meal on your meal plan.
  3. Save to collection files the recipe in a collection. On a phone it is the first item in More options (3 in the phone picture).
  4. Share recipe, the icon of three joined dots, makes a link you can send. See Share a recipe. The heart beside it is Add to favourites. On a phone both are in More options.
  5. More options opens the menu described below.

The pencil at the top right (Edit recipe) opens edit mode.

On a recipe you own, an AI Remix card also offers goals such as Gluten-Free and Dairy-Free. They ask the AI to rewrite the recipe, and the result is a private copy. The result says This is an AI rewrite. For those two goals, RecipeClip then checks the new ingredients and steps by name. A line that still names the allergen shows as Still lists or Still mentions with the line to check. A line labelled free, such as gluten-free flour, shows a softer Labelled note to check the packaging. This check reads names only and can miss hidden sources, so read every label. For your own warnings, see Set your diet and allergies.

Add a tag#

Tags are your own labels, such as Weeknight. They become a filter on the Recipes page.

  1. 1

Press + Tag under the title

You'll see: A small box appears with the words Tag name.

  2. 2

Type a name and press Enter

Use a name you have used before to reuse that tag.

You'll see: The tag shows as a chip. Press the small x on a chip to remove that tag.

Change the servings#

The servings box sits in the ingredients card, under the US / Metric switch at its top right. Change the number and every amount follows, so a recipe for four becomes a recipe for six.

  1. 1

Press + or − in the servings box

You can also click the number and type one. The lowest is 1 and the highest is 20.

You'll see: The amounts update, changed ones turn orange, and a line says Scaled to 6 servings.

  2. 2

Press the round arrow, Reset to original servings, to go back

The arrow only shows while the number is different from the original. Your change is for this visit: it does not rewrite the recipe. To change the recipe itself, use Edit recipe.

You'll see: The amounts return to what the recipe says.

Why a range like “4-6” cannot scale#

Some recipes say a range, such as 4-6, instead of one number. There is no single starting point to multiply from, so the plus and minus buttons are replaced by the number as written and a small i icon.

  1. 1

    Press the i icon

To make the recipe scalable, open Edit recipe and change Servings to one number, such as 4.

You'll see: A tip explains: Scaling isn’t available for a servings range like this.

Ingredients#

The US / Metric switch at the top of the card shows the amounts in the units you cook with. See Switch between metric and US units.

  1. 1

Tap an ingredient to cross it off

Use it while you shop or measure. Tap again to undo. These marks are only for you on this page: they are not saved and clear when you leave.

You'll see: Its box turns green with a tick and the name is struck through.

  2. 2

Tap the swap arrows beside an ingredient to look for a substitute

This is a Pro feature Pro. On the Free plan the arrows show a lock. See Swap an ingredient.

You'll see: A panel suggests replacements for that ingredient.

If you or anyone in your household has set a diet, allergens or dislikes, a warnings card can appear on a recipe you own or one shared with your household when the ingredients or steps match. It never shows on Explore, public profile (/u/) or share-link pages, the meal plan, the grocery list or cook mode, and no card does not mean safe: read the ingredients. See Set your diet and allergies.

Pantry check Pro#

Under the ingredients, the Pantry check card compares the list with what is on your pantry shelves. It reads, for example, 8 of 14 already in your kitchen, with a bar showing the share you already have.

  1. 1

Press the card to open it

The button puts every missing item on your grocery list in one press. Press the card again to close it.

You'll see: Three parts appear: Missing, a button such as Add 6 to grocery list, and In your pantry.

On the Free plan

The card is still there but locked. It shows a Pro label and a short line about what the check does and what Pro costs after the free trial.

Steps#

The method is a numbered list headed METHOD and the number of steps. If the recipe came with step photos they sit under the step they belong to. To follow the steps one at a time with big text, press Start cooking.

Notes and video#

Notes holds tips from the original page, or your own: swaps, timings, what you would change next time. A new recipe says Nothing yet. Open Edit recipe to write one.

Video appears only when the recipe came from a video or has a video link. Press Play video to watch it right here, without leaving the page.

Nutrition Pro#

The Nutrition card works out calories and macros for one serving from the ingredient list.

  1. 1

    Press Estimate nutrition

It is an estimate worked out from the ingredient list, so treat it as a guide. To log what you ate, use the nutrition diary.

You'll see: The card fills in with Per serving · estimated: Calories, Protein, Carbohydrate, Fat, Fibre, Sugar and Sodium.

On the Free plan the card is locked and shows a Pro label instead of the button.

The More options menu#

The three dots hold everything else. What you see depends on whether the recipe is yours and which plan you are on.

  1. 1

    Press More options

You'll see: A menu opens under the dots.

Common questions#

Where do I change the photo?#

Under the photo, and in edit mode. See Add photos to a recipe.

Does scaling change my saved recipe?#

No. It only changes what you see and what Start cooking opens with. Edit the recipe to change it for good.

I do not see the Pantry check.#

It is part of Pro. On Free the card is locked. On Pro and Family you also need some items on your pantry shelves to get a useful answer.
