Claude Code
Any Claude Code install
Add RecipeClip as an HTTP MCP server, then sign in or pass an API key.
- 1
Add the server
Run one of these in a terminal.--transport httpis required. Claude Code defaults to a local (stdio) server otherwise.claude mcp add --transport http recipeclip https://recipeclip.app/api/mcpYou'll see: Added HTTP MCP server recipeclip with URL https://recipeclip.app/api/mcp to local config.
- 2
Sign in (OAuth only)
Runclaude mcp login recipeclip. Approve access. Over SSH, add--no-browserto get a link you can open elsewhere. You'll see: A browser opens RecipeClip's sign-in page.
- 3
Verify it worked
bashclaude mcp listThe add and list commands together (API-key path shown; sign-in looks the same minus the --header flag). You'll see: ✔ Connected next to recipeclip.
Two gotchas worth knowing
--scope user to the add command to make RecipeClip available in every project instead of just the current one.Cursor
One click, or paste a config file. Pick one.
- 1
One click: Add to Cursor
You'll see: Cursor opens with RecipeClip pre-filled. Follow the prompts to finish adding it.
- 2
Or: paste the config file
Open~/.cursor/mcp.json(or.cursor/mcp.jsonin a project) and paste one of these, then save.{ "mcpServers": { "recipeclip": { "url": "https://recipeclip.app/api/mcp" } }}You'll see: Cursor picks up the new server.
- 3
Sign in (OAuth only)
A browser window opens for RecipeClip's sign-in page. Approve access there. You'll see: The tool list populates after you approve access.
- 4
Try it
Open a new chat and ask something that needs your recipes. You'll see: Cursor answers using your RecipeClip library.
VS Code

Add a server config file, then let VS Code handle sign-in automatically.
- 1
Create the config file
Create.vscode/mcp.jsonin your project (or runMCP: Open User Configurationfrom the Command Palette for one that applies everywhere), and paste one of these:{ "servers": { "recipeclip": { "type": "http", "url": "https://recipeclip.app/api/mcp" } }}You'll see: VS Code detects the new server.
- 2
Sign in (OAuth only)
Save the file. If prompted to start the server, clickStart, then approve access in the browser tab that opens. You'll see: A browser opens RecipeClip's sign-in page.
- 3
Verify it worked
Open the Accounts menu →Manage Trusted MCP Servers. You'll see: RecipeClip is listed with access.

The CLI and the IDE extension share the same config. Add the server once from a terminal.
- 1
Add the server
codex mcp add recipeclip --url https://recipeclip.app/api/mcpFor the API key option, set the
RECIPECLIP_API_KEYenvironment variable first (API key). You'll see: codex detects OAuth and opens your browser, or uses your key.
- 2
Sign in (OAuth only)
Approve access in the browser window that opens. If it doesn't, runcodex mcp login recipeclip. You'll see: RecipeClip shows as signed in.
- 3
Raise the tool timeout
Codex's default 60-second timeout is shorter than RecipeClip's AI import can take. Open~/.codex/config.toml, find the[mcp_servers.recipeclip]block step 1 created, and add this line under it. Don't paste a second[mcp_servers.recipeclip]table, or Codex will refuse to load the file:tomltool_timeout_sec = 240You'll see: save_recipe_from_url won't time out mid-import.
- 4
Verify it worked
bashcodex mcp listYou'll see: recipeclip is listed as enabled and signed in.
Gemini CLI
Free and open source
Add the server from the command line. It writes the config file for you.
- 1
Add the server
gemini mcp add -s user --transport http recipeclip https://recipeclip.app/api/mcpThe
-s userflag matters: without it, RecipeClip only works in the folder where you added it. Add--trusttoo to auto-approve RecipeClip's own tools without asking each time (it doesn't affect any other server). Need a key? API key. You'll see: recipeclip is added, scoped to every project.
- 2
Trust the folder
The first time you rungeminiin a new folder, it asks you to trust that folder. Say yes; until you do, MCP servers (andgemini mcp list) won't work there. You'll see: Gemini CLI starts normally, with MCP enabled.
- 3
Sign in (OAuth only)
Startgeminiand run/mcp auth recipeclip.You'll see: A browser opens RecipeClip's sign-in page.
- 4
Verify it worked
Run/mcpinside a session, orgemini mcp listfrom a terminal.recipeclip connected, via gemini mcp list. You'll see: recipeclip shows CONNECTED with its tools listed.
Editing the config file directly
If you'd rather edit ~/.gemini/settings.json by hand instead of using the command above, this is the shape the CLI itself writes (some older documentation shows an httpUrl field instead of url for the same transport; try that if url doesn't connect):
{ "mcpServers": { "recipeclip": { "type": "http", "url": "https://recipeclip.app/api/mcp" } }}Windsurf
MCP calls use Windsurf's credit system · Off by default on Enterprise, where an admin turns it on
Open the MCP settings from inside Windsurf rather than hunting for the config file, since its exact path has changed between versions.
- 1
Open the MCP config
In Windsurf, go toSettings → Tools → Windsurf Settingsand chooseAdd Server, or useOpen MCP config fileto edit the JSON directly. You'll see: A JSON file, or an Add Server form.
- 2
Add RecipeClip
{ "mcpServers": { "recipeclip": { "serverUrl": "https://recipeclip.app/api/mcp" } }}For the API key option, set the
RECIPECLIP_API_KEYenvironment variable first (API key). You'll see: Cascade picks up the new server.
- 3
Sign in (OAuth only)
Save. Cascade opens a browser window for RecipeClip's sign-in page. Approve access there. You'll see: RecipeClip shows active in the server list.
Antigravity
Free individual tier available
Add RecipeClip from the MCP servers panel, then finish signing in inside Antigravity.
- 1
Open the MCP servers config
In the agent side panel, open… → MCP Servers → Manage MCP Servers → View raw config(Antigravity 2.0:Settings → Customizations → Installed MCP Servers). You'll see: A raw JSON config view.
- 2
Add RecipeClip
{ "mcpServers": { "recipeclip": { "serverUrl": "https://recipeclip.app/api/mcp" } }}You'll see: RecipeClip appears in the server list.
- 3
Sign in (OAuth only)
ClickAuthenticatenext to RecipeClip, finish sign-in in your browser, then copy the authorization code back into Antigravity and clickSubmit. You'll see: The server reconnects automatically from then on.
serverUrl, not url or httpUrl
url or httpUrl (the field Gemini CLI uses) aren't supported here. Use serverUrl instead.Other MCP clients
Most MCP clients use this same shape: a server named recipeclip, a url, and an optional Authorization header. Omit headers entirely if your client offers to sign in instead.
{ "mcpServers": { "recipeclip": { "url": "https://recipeclip.app/api/mcp", "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer rcp_live_YOUR_KEY" } } }}▸Show other clients (Zed, Perplexity, LM Studio, Raycast, n8n, Zapier)

OpenAI's API doesn't handle sign-in itself, so pass a RecipeClip API key as a bearer token. By default OpenAI asks for approval before any tool runs; the example below pre-approves four read tools and leaves every write tool (such as save_recipe_from_url) requiring approval.

Permissions & security
Sign-in vs. API key
Signing in (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, and most config-file clients) always grants full read and write access. RecipeClip's sign-in flow doesn't yet offer a read-only option, so any assistant you connect that way can save recipes and change your pantry, meal plan and grocery list, not just look things up. An API key lets you choose instead: a read-only key for an assistant that should only look things up, or a read and write key if it should also be able to save recipes or edit your pantry, plan and list.
Per-tool approval
Several clients (Claude, Codex CLI, OpenAI's Responses API) let you require a confirmation before a specific tool runs. This is useful for gating the write tools, such as save_recipe_from_url or plan_meal, while leaving the read tools to run freely.
Disconnecting
To remove a signed-in assistant, go to Connected apps in your developer console and disconnect it. To revoke an API key, find it in your API keys list and click the trash icon next to it. Any client using it stops working immediately.
