Ingredients

  • 8 oz (230g) beef flap meat (or tenderloin)
  • oil (for pan-frying)
  • 1/2 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 tablespoon Japanese cooking sake
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Japanese cooking sake
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons mirin (sweet rice wine)
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch (mixed with 1 teaspoon water)
  • white sesame seeds
  • some chopped scallions (optional)

Steps

  1. 1

Cut the beef into strips against the grain. Marinate the beef in the marinade for 5 minutes.

  2. 2

Mix all the ingredients for the teriyaki sauce in a bowl. Heat a small saucepan and add the sauce. As soon as it starts to bubble, remove it from the heat.

  3. 3

Add some oil to your skillet and pan-fry the beef until it’s slightly charred. Transfer the beef to a serving dish and pour the teriyaki sauce on top. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped scallions, if desired. Serve the beef teriyaki immediately with steamed white rice.
