A rich, slow-cooked Italian meat sauce over al dente spaghetti. The kind of Sunday dinner that fills the house with incredible aroma.
Finely dice the onion, carrot, and celery. Mince the garlic.
Heat olive oil in a large heavy-bottomed pan over medium heat. Add onion, carrot, and celery. Cook 8 minutes.
Add garlic and cook 1 more minute.
Add ground beef and pork. Break up and cook until browned, about 10 minutes.
Pour in red wine. Bubble for 2 minutes to cook off alcohol.
Add crushed tomatoes and tomato paste. Stir well.
Reduce heat to low, partially cover, and simmer 30 minutes.
Cook spaghetti in salted boiling water until al dente.
Season sauce with salt and pepper. Tear in fresh basil.
Drain pasta, toss with sauce, serve topped with parmesan.
